How to measure a bollard for a cover

A bollard cover needs two numbers: the outside diameter of the pipe and the height to be covered. The notes below explain each measurement and how Frontline's covers are sized.

1. Outside diameter

Measure straight across the widest fixed part the cover must pass over, through its center, from outside edge to outside edge. If the round pipe is hard to measure directly, wrap a flexible tape measure around it and divide the circumference by 3.14. If a fixed cap or projection is wider than the pipe, contact Frontline before selecting a cover. Frontline's 1/4" HDPE bollard covers fit steel pipe in nominal sizes from 3" to 12" and include securing tape strips for installation. Cover sizes use the pipe’s nominal size, not the measured figure: a standard 6" pipe measures about 6-5/8" outside and takes the 6 cover. Measured outside diameter to cover size: 3-1/2" takes 3, 4" takes 3.5, 4-1/2" takes 4, 5-1/2" takes 5.5, 6-5/8" takes 6, 8-5/8" takes 8, 10-3/4" takes 10 and 12-3/4" takes 12. For a 7-1/2" pipe, or a measurement between those values, contact Frontline before selecting a cover.

2. Height

Measure vertically from the base of the exposed pipe to its top. If a concrete dome surrounds the base, measure the exposed pipe above the dome and add about 3" so the cover extends over the dome. Standard heights are available up to 84", depending on diameter. Custom-height cutting is available for a precise fit.

3. Reading the size code

Each cover variant is listed by color, then a diameter-height code ending in -S. For example, 4-52-S is the 4 cover size (pipe measuring about 4-1/2" outside) at 52" height and 6-84-S is the 6 cover size (about 6-5/8" outside) at 84" height. The first number is the nominal size from the table above, not the measured diameter. Choose from 12 standard colors: Yellow, Red, Black, Blue, (Light) 285 Blue, Gray, Light Gray, White, Forest Green, Brown, Urban Bronze and Orange.
